Fatality Free Friday 2026
Post Date: 09/06/2026
Today is Fatality Free Friday, a powerful initiative from the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) reminding all Australians that every life on our roads matters.
According to ARSF, 71% of drivers admit to breaking at least one road law and 53% confess to taking risks or breaking laws on everyday journeys.
The Fatality Free Friday initiative is more than just one day – it’s a reminder that every road death is preventable.
At Optix, we know safer roads start with awareness, accountability and better driving behaviours. Today is an important reminder for all road users to make safety the priority. In doing so, we can fulfil our mission to ensure everyone returns safely home.

Media commentary from Colin Hughes, APAC Senior Vice President, Optix Australia
“With 1,314 lives being lost on Australian roads last year, the message behind Fatality Free Friday has never been more important. The initiative serves as a timely reminder that road safety is a shared responsibility, and every Australian has a role to play in preventing further tragedies on our roads.
“Optix is proud to support Fatality Free Friday by encouraging transport operators and fleets to create a strong safety culture. Whether it’s reducing distractions, managing fatigue or empowering drivers to make safer decisions behind the wheel, small actions can save lives. This is where video technology can play a vital role by giving operators greater visibility of risky behaviour, including broader trends and patterns. For example, we know from our own data that 10am – 11am on Fridays is one of the riskiest times of day on Australian roads. Having access to these types of insights means operators can proactively identify risk and take action to encourage safer habits.
“Fatality Free Friday highlights what is possible when road safety becomes a daily priority and not just a once-a-year conversation.”
